The Old Tannery is set in a gorgeous natural environment, with a river running through the garden, a veg patch where this year’s crops are slowly beginning to peek their heads out, and beautiful old French buildings (that we need help making up again!). We also have a patch for our chickens (who provide us and volunteers with yummy eggs!), a beehive and a dog and a cat (which make great company).
Here you are only a ten-minute walk from the charming village of Montolieu, also known as the ‘village of books’ (as it has 15 bookshops and counting). It has wonderful cobbled streets and friendly locals to talk to. If you are wanting to go further afield, the medieval city of Carcassonne is only 18km away and is well known for its walls and the Canal du Midi.
Other places to visit Toulouse (a large cultural University city, good for exhibitions) or Narbonne (on the Mediterranean coast) complete with sandy beaches and ice cream.
If you’re interested in becoming our next recruit, please apply here and we’ll get back to you as soon as we possibly can. Please note that we are closed to volunteers until April 2019. This is due to operational reasons.
Alternatively, if you’d like to know more, please read our volunteer Information for more details.
